Family Focus Expands To Brunswick Landing

Family Focus Announces Expansion to Brunswick Landing

February 28, 2014

BATH, Maine — Family Focus has acquired the child care facilities at Brunswick Landing, formerly Naval Air Station Brunswick.

In 2006, the U.S. Department of Education announced that Family Focus had been selected to own and operate the two buildings on NASB, which had been used by the Navy for the pre-schooling of children of military families, according to Bob Parlin, Executive Director of Family Focus. The transfer of the buildings has now been completed, and Family Focus is now been charged by the terms of the gift from the U.S. government to renovate the buildings in order to serve children in the mid-coast area.

Mr. Parlin said that it has not been determined when the two buildings will be returned to service, but the first to begin will be the newest building (#26 as numbered by the Navy), which he anticipates will be late this year. Family Focus intends to conduct a capital funds drive for the renovation of the buildings and to create an endowment fund to assist families who could not otherwise afford pre-school education and care. Information concerning the funds drive will be released at a later date, Mr. Parlin said.

Family Focus has been providing quality care and education to children in the Mid Coast for over 28 years. In conjunction with the agency’s early learning centers located in Bath and in Brunswick serving up to 50 children at each location (six weeks of age through kindergarten age 5), the agency provides before and after school age care in five community area schools in Brunswick and SAD 75, serving 300 children annually.

Family Focus is contracted through the State of Maine as an agency sponsor in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer). The program provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks to children and adults and in 2013 sponsored over 40 providers with over 600 children enrolled.

Family Focus’ Mission Statement is: Family Focus partners with families to provide high-quality care and education to meet the individual needs of all children. We are committed to preparing children for future success through credentialed staff, nurturing environments and research-based curriculum.

“We look forward to having Family Focus here and we’re especially pleased to have another great child care option at Brunswick Landing,” MRRA Executive Director Steve Levesque said. “It’s an important service to be able to offer our current growing businesses and future prospective tenants.”
