MRRA Creating More Manufacturing Space to Meet Demand at Brunswick Landing
Hangar 4 East Industrial Project Under Way
The Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority recently kicked off a renovation project located on the east side of former Navy Hangar 4. The project is designed to help growing manufacturing companies in need of industrial space. The space will be ideal for companies engaged in the aerospace, composites, renewable energy, and biotech/biomed industries.
Once complete in the early fall, approximately 16,000 square feet of manufacturing space divided into several separate units will be available. The modified space includes an overhead monorail crane and will be able to accommodate up to seven manufacturing businesses with individual work spaces ranging in size from 1,500 SF to 2,800 SF.
The space is located adjacent to TechPlace, Brunswick Landing’s Technology Accelerator, which features smaller manufacturing spaces and a shared machine shop and woodshop.
The building, located at 74 Orion Street, was previously used for maintenance, repair and overhaul of Navy aircraft. There are a number of Navy historical artifacts in the space, such as the old Geedunk and some signage and murals on the walls. The construction crew will do its best to preserve some of it. The Brunswick Naval Museum also has an interest in curating some of it. can.
