TechPlace Composites Layup Facility Nears Completion
Excellent location for fuselage, wings and other advanced materials for aircraft manufacturing.
Work continues on the new composites layup facility in TechPlace’s Phase III industrial area. The project is nearly wrapped up majority of the new facility is expected to be online by February 1st. The new paint booth is set up and layup room is coming along with new flooring installed. HVAC systems are next on the list. Once complete, this will be a prime spot for manufacturing of composites parts. There’s enough space here to build aircraft fuselages, wings, ailerons, etc. for smaller planes, or for other applications. As a bonus, the Composites Engineering Research Lab (CERL) is next door for assistance with prototyping and materials testing.
TechPlace’s composite lay-up facility will feature:
- Portable Fume Extractors
- Ductless Fume Hood
- Vacuum Pumps
- State of the Art Paint Booth
- Lay-up Tables
- Chemical Storage
- Kitting Equipment
- Fabric Cutting and Storage
- Weighing Scale
- Clean, compressed air
MRRA used monies from two separate grants from the Maine Technology Institute (MTI) and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to fund this project.
